The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) released its report, Healthy Aging Begins at Home. Over the last year, the BPC’s Senior Health and Housing Task Force developed the report to provide recommendations on a variety of topics that would allow seniors to age with options and dignity. There is also an Advisory Committee, of which SAHF’s Strategic Advisor and Co-Founder, Bill Kelly, is a member.
The task force strongly recommends: 1) a significant increase in the low income housing tax credit to build and preserve affordable housing; 2) continuation of rental assistance to all section 202 rental housing; 3) more effective support for service coordination needs of senior housing providers, especially mission-oriented nonprofits; 4) a new program working through the states, enabling sponsors to combine tax credits and other capital sources with project-based rental assistance; and 5) making the prevention and ending of homelessness among older adults a national priority.
